Number health and messaging limits

Reading the messaging limit tier and quality rating, and who sets them.

The WhatsApp Number Health card on WhatsApp Settings reads two values live from Meta.

Messaging limit tier

The number of unique recipients your number may start conversations with in a rolling 24 hours. A new or unverified business number starts at 250 recipients / 24h.

This ceiling is set by Meta on your WhatsApp Business Account, not by your MsgOrb plan. MsgOrb never limits how many messages you send; your plan only limits how many members you can store.

Tiers rise automatically as you send more with good engagement. The gate from 250 to 1,000 is Business Verification, which you complete in Meta Business Settings. Above that the progression to 10K, 100K and unlimited is automatic.

The limit applies at the Meta business portfolio level and is shared across every number in that portfolio.

Quality rating

Meta's assessment of how recipients react to your messages — High, Medium or Low. It drops when people block your number or report your messages, and a sustained Low rating can push your tier back down.

Practical ways to protect it:

  • Only message people who asked to hear from you. The join link records opt-in proof for exactly this reason.
  • Honour STOP immediately. MsgOrb does this automatically — see Contact status and health.
  • Do not resubmit rejected templates in slightly different wording. Repeated rejections and reclassifications count against you.
